Frequently Asked Questions

Why convert an Outlook Note item to a audio file
Note items in Outlook are extremely cumbersome.  If you play back audio from the Outlook interface, you can not seek within the file, and have very limited portability.  This tool will allow you to extract the audio from the Note and use it in whatever way you may choose (archiving, easy listening, upload to a portable audio player, et cetera).

Saving a Microsoft Outlook Note as a .msg file
In Microsoft Outlook XP or Outlook 2003, highlight the Note that you would like to extract the audio from.  Go to 'File'/'Save As...', then in the drop-down menu 'Save as type:' select 'Outlook message format (*.msg)'.  Select where you want the file to be saved, then click 'Save'

Saving an audio recording of a phone conversation on an iPAQ H6315
From the phone application, click on the Notes icon after you have begun a call.  Then click on the tape icon, then press the record button.  The conversation is saved as a Note on your PDA and will be transferred to MS Outlook the next time you sync up.  Then you can save it as a .msg file (see above) and convert it to a raw audio file using this page.
